For many, carpeting is a popular option due to the comfort and versatility it can provide. Polyester carpet comes in a variety of styles and colors and makes a great flooring choice in any home.
What is Polyester Carpet?
Polyester, as a material, is essentially a type of plastic. This material is usually used in cut-pile carpets, where the fibers stitched into the carpet backing have been cut in half to create an open-threaded, smooth surface. Despite its plastic-like properties, polyester carpet is extremely soft and boasts a series of other benefits.
As stated above, polyester carpet is very soft to the touch, making it a great choice for bedrooms and family rooms. The carpet’s naturally cushy feel is compounded by the fact that it is typically utilized in cut-pile carpets, a style which also tends to create softer flooring. Because the carpet is so smooth, it will tend to be more heavily affected by feet and vacuum lines. Therefore, polyester carpet is usually best placed in rooms that see low-to-medium levels of foot traffic.
Polyester carpets are also great at retaining their color and being fade-resistant. Polyester is considered a color fast material, which means that it will not lose its color even if it becomes wet, is subjected to intense sunlight, or treated with chemical cleaners. This makes it an ideal choice for areas with large windows and for rooms where people may be drinking.
Related to its ability to retain its color, polyester carpet is also hydrophobic, which means that it repels liquid. This quality helps it to remain stain and mold-free, as liquids are unable to adhere and seep into the polyester flooring.
